Frequently asked questions about Alsona

Written by Jaclyn Curtis

What is Alsona?

Alsona is an intent-led outbound platform. It monitors public buying signals across the web, identifies which companies are showing them, finds the right decision-makers at those companies, writes personalized outreach, and sends it from your LinkedIn and email accounts. It runs continuously rather than as a one-off campaign.

How is Alsona different from a normal sales sequencer?

A sequencer starts with a list you build and messages everyone on it. Alsona starts with behavior: it watches for companies doing things that suggest they need what you sell, and the prospect list assembles itself from those detections. The practical difference is timing. Prospects arrive with a reason to be contacted this week rather than at some arbitrary point in a static list.

You can still work from a list. Point an agent at a LinkedIn search, a CSV, or HubSpot and it behaves more like a sequencer, with better message writing.

What is an agent in Alsona?

An agent is a single outbound program with one goal. It has its own prospect source, its own set of intent signals, its own targeting, its own messages, and its own workflow. Most accounts run several agents, one per audience or offer.

What is a sender?

A sender is a sending identity: one LinkedIn account, one email account, or both. Agents send on behalf of senders, so the number of senders you have sets the ceiling on your daily outreach volume. In billing these are counted as seats.

Intent signals

What is an intent signal?

An intent signal is a public, observable change at a company that suggests it may be moving toward a purchase. Examples include a hiring spike in a specific function, a funding round, a change in the technology stack, a surge of negative reviews on a competitor, or an executive discussing a relevant problem on a podcast.

How many intent signals does Alsona track?

Alsona tracks 31 signal sources across nine categories: hiring and workforce, digital and social, ads and demand generation, reviews, news and media, events and talks, technology and developer intelligence, financial, and alternative data.

Where does Alsona get its signal data?

From public sources. Job listings, company websites, public LinkedIn and X activity, review sites including G2, Trustpilot, Capterra and Google Maps, news and industry press, podcasts across YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts, public GitHub repositories, SEC filings, and Crunchbase company data. Nothing Alsona detects is private or non-public information.

How many signal sources should I turn on?

Three to six is the right starting point. Turning on all 31 produces noise rather than pipeline, and it makes the breakdown by signal source useless for diagnosis because every category is contributing a little. Add more once you can see which categories are producing replies.

Does one signal always create a prospect?

No. Most signals produce no prospect at all. A signal attaches to a company, and it only becomes a prospect if the company matches your targeting, a suitable decision-maker is found, and the resulting score clears your threshold. One signal can also produce several prospects if there are multiple relevant people at that company, and several signals can point at a single prospect.

Why do the numbers on the Intent Signals tab not add up?

Because each counter measures a different thing. Signals detected counts individual detections, so one company found by three sources counts three times. High-intent companies counts companies, which collapses those duplicates. Identified prospects counts people, which can expand again. Dividing one by another does not give you a conversion rate.

Setup and accounts

What do I need to start using Alsona?

A LinkedIn account on a paid plan, and ideally an email account on Google or Microsoft. Basic LinkedIn accounts cannot run agents.

Can I run Alsona with a free LinkedIn account?

No. A paid LinkedIn plan is required.

Do I need Sales Navigator?

Only for Sales Navigator search URLs as a prospect source. A standard LinkedIn People search works on any paid plan. If you run one agent across several senders, a Sales Navigator filter will only work on the senders that have a Sales Navigator subscription.

How do I connect my LinkedIn account?

Go to Senders, click Add sender, and choose LinkedIn. You enter the account's email address and password, then choose proxy settings. Pick a proxy in the country and city the account normally logs in from, because a sudden change in apparent location is a pattern LinkedIn flags.

How do I connect email?

Go to Senders, click Add sender, and choose Email. Alsona supports Google and Microsoft through sign-in. There is no SMTP option.

How long before I see results?

Signals and matched prospects typically appear within a few hours of launching an agent. Replies depend on your audience and message quality, and most accounts see meaningful reply volume within the first two weeks.

Account safety and limits

Will using Alsona get my LinkedIn account restricted?

Not if you use the recommended limits. Alsona applies daily caps on every action type and varies them by plus or minus 10 percent so activity does not look mechanical. The main risk factor is overriding those caps manually.

What is Auto-scale?

Auto-scale applies Alsona's recommended safe limits to a sender and raises them gradually as the account warms up. It is the single most useful safety setting in the product. With it switched off you will see a banner warning that you are not using recommended values, and any limit above the recommendation is shown in red.

What limits can I set on a sender?

Ten: profile views, profile follows, InMails, connection invites, page invites, post likes, post comments, messages to first-degree connections, how many pending invitations to hold, and how long to hold them before auto-withdrawing. Email has its own separate daily send limit.

What is account health?

A reading Alsona shows on each sender indicating how much risk that LinkedIn account is currently carrying. It appears alongside the account's SSI score, connection count, and plan status. Treat anything other than low risk as a signal to reduce limits.

What should I do if LinkedIn sends me a warning?

Pause the agents using that sender, turn on Auto-scale so limits drop to safe values, leave the account alone for 24 to 48 hours, then resume at the recommended limits.

Email

Does Alsona find email addresses automatically?

No. You need to include a Find business email action in your workflow. Without that step, no enrichment happens.

What percentage of business emails can Alsona find?

Around 50 to 60 percent.

Are the emails business or personal?

All business emails. Alsona works with several third-party data providers using a waterfall approach to find the most relevant address.

How quickly can I increase my email sending limits?

By roughly 50 additional emails per week. Increasing faster than that risks deliverability.

Why is my email activity showing zero?

Check the email limit on the sender first. If it is set to zero, no email will ever send regardless of how many agents are running.

AI and messaging

Does Alsona write the messages?

Yes, if you want it to. Each message step in a workflow offers a choice between writing your own copy with variables, and AI Contextual Outreach, which adapts the message to each prospect's context rather than filling a template. The setting is per step, so you can hand-write your opener and let the AI handle follow-ups.

Will the AI reply to prospects for me?

That depends on the outreach mode. Full Autopilot sends outreach and answers replies on your behalf. Outbound Autopilot sends outreach and hands every reply to you. Co-pilot drafts everything and sends nothing without your approval.

Can I take over a conversation from the agent?

Yes, at any point. When an agent is handling a thread, the inbox shows a banner reading "The agent is handling this conversation" with a Take over button. Clicking it stops the agent replying on that thread.

How do I control what the AI says?

Four settings shape it: tone of voice, message length, your offering and pain points in the Agent profile, and Additional outreach instructions, which is a free-text field for rules the agent should follow. Use that last one for the things unique to you, such as words to avoid, claims you cannot make, or how to handle specific objections.

Can I A/B test my messages?

Yes. Add a variant to any message step and Alsona splits sends between the versions, then reports on each. You can also test manual copy against AI Contextual Outreach on the same step.

Scoring and targeting

What is the opportunity score?

A score combining how well a prospect matches your ideal customer profile with how much live buying intent their company is showing. You control the balance between the two, which defaults to 60 percent fit and 40 percent intent.

Is opportunity scoring on by default?

No. It is off until you switch on "Calculate opportunity score for agent prospects" under Settings, then Opportunity score. Until you do, both score thresholds have no effect and the Opportunity Score column on the Prospects tab stays empty.

Why is my agent finding prospects but not contacting them?

Almost always because your outreach threshold is set higher than your visibility threshold. These are two separate settings on two different screens. The visibility threshold controls who appears in your results, and the outreach threshold controls who actually gets messaged. A prospect can be visible and never contacted.

How do I get more prospects?

Lower the visibility threshold first, since it reveals prospects that already exist and costs nothing. Then lower the outreach threshold, rebalance the score toward intent, widen your target job titles, broaden the Customize settings on signal sources you already have, and only then add new sources. Change one thing at a time.

Agencies

Can I manage multiple clients in Alsona?

Yes. The agency dashboard sits above individual accounts, and each client gets a separate account with its own agents, senders, and data. Use Switch account from the bottom-left menu to move between them, and Return to agency to go back up a level.

What user roles are available?

Four. Admin has full access, Editor can edit agents and settings, Billing sees billing and invoices only, and View is read-only.

Can I white-label Alsona?

Yes. Clients log in through your own branded domain rather than the main platform URL. See the white-label setup article for what is required.

Does one agency API key return data for all my clients?

No. An agency key can reach multiple accounts but does not aggregate across them. You specify one account ID per request, so reporting across ten clients means looping through ten account IDs.

Integrations

What does Alsona integrate with?

HubSpot and Salesforce are available as native integrations, HubSpot also works as a prospect source, and there are outbound webhooks plus a full REST API. Pipedrive, Go High Level, Close, and Zapier appear on the integrations page but are not yet enabled.

Does Alsona have a Zapier integration?

Not a native one yet. You can connect the two today using Alsona's webhooks as a Zapier trigger and the Alsona API as a Zapier action, both through Webhooks by Zapier.

What webhook events does Alsona support?

Four: a LinkedIn invite is accepted, a LinkedIn profile is invited, a LinkedIn profile replies, and an email receives a reply.

Does Alsona have an API?

Yes, a REST API documented at api.alsona.com. Authenticate with an X-API-KEY header against https://alsona.com/rest/. Keys are scoped by resource and created from the Integrations page.

Billing and credits

What does the credit meter show?

Usage in the current billing period, not a remaining balance. The number on the left counts up toward your total, so 19,961 of 20,000 means almost all of your allowance has been used.

When do credits reset?

At the start of each billing period.

How is Alsona priced?

Pricing is based on seats and usage. See the pricing page on alsona.com for current plans, or contact us for agency and volume arrangements.

Troubleshooting

Why is my agent not sending anything?

Work through five causes in order. Check that opportunity scoring is switched on if you have set thresholds, since they do nothing otherwise. Check the outreach threshold is not higher than your visibility threshold. Confirm the agent has at least one sender assigned. Check whether that sender has hit its daily limit. Confirm you are inside the sending schedule, and that you have not used your credits for the period.

My agent says Inactive but it is switched on. Why?

On and Active are separate states. On means the agent is allowed to run. Active means it is set up and detecting. An agent with no signal source will show Inactive and offer an "Add a signal source to start listening" button.

Why is a signal source finding nothing?

If it is LinkedIn Audience Engagement, it needs keywords. That source only tracks engagement on posts matching keywords you supply, and it shows a warning icon until you add them. For other sources, check the Customize setting, since a narrow Track option will legitimately produce very few detections.

Do statistics keep updating on a paused agent?

Yes. If a prospect takes an action after you pause, it still registers.

Can I edit an agent after launching it?

You can change message copy at any time, and prospects entering that step afterward will receive the updated version. Structural changes to a workflow are more limited once a later step has recorded activity.

Why did my connection request fail?

Common causes include the sender hitting its daily invite limit, LinkedIn throttling the account, or the prospect having restricted who can send them invitations. The workflow canvas shows failed invites as a red number under the Invite to connect step.
